Not sure why it does not work:

git clone -v [email protected]:XXXX.git
[email protected]: Permission denied (publickey).

you have to add to your ~/.ssh/config

Host gist.github.com
    HostName gist.github.com
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/keys/github

while there already exist entry for Host github.com ;(
